ALSMA 2014 Annual Conference

“Local Search – On the Verge of a Mobile Only World”
29 – 31 October, Bangkok, Thailand
ABOUT THE EVENT
Our theme, “Local Search – On the Verge of a Mobile Only World” is quite appropriate given the rapidly changing contours of our local search industry. Think back just a decade to 2004 when we met as a group in Shanghai and I think you will agree that is difficult to comprehend that:
  • The smartphone of iPhone had not been commercialized
  • Google was only 5 years old as a company and had just $3.2B in revenue (mainly search)
  • FaceBook was a college dorm experiment
  • Yellow Pages companies were selling at 10 - 12X multiples
  • We were all 10 years younger
Fast forward to late October when we meet in Bangkok – October 29th to 31st. By then:
  • Apple will have introduced their latest smartphone aimed at halting the meteoric growth of Android (Samsung) phones
  • Google will have reached nearly $40B in revenue with well over 50% of their searches emanating from mobile devices
  • FaceBook will have reported over 1B mobile users and over $8B in revenue - it’s most impressive results to date
  • The Yellow Pages industry will continue to be challenged to figure out a path forward given the changing landscape (and wishing for multiples of even 5X)
  • We be a decade older but showing no signs of aging.
At ALSMA 2014 we’ll hear from local search executives, entrepreneurs, industry analysts, search industry executives, vertical specialists and even some wearable experts. You’ll be able to ask questions, network, trade best practice ideas, figure out new business models all while preparing yourself, and your team, for another amazing decade that is ahead of us. If the past decade is any indicator of the next decade, we are in for an amazing journey.
